I’m so glad you’re here.

My name is Dr. Meredith Carleton, but most clients call me Meredith or Dr. C.

I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist and registered Creative Arts Therapist with over twenty years of experience in the field.

My treatment style is eclectic and collaborative, and I offer my clients a warm and welcoming environment to connect. My approach integrates psychodynamic fundamentals with creative, practical strategies for growth.

The key to healing is self-understanding. Therapy is an exercise in improving quality of life, achieved through recognizing and disrupting dysfunctional patterns. We’ll work together to reduce anxiety, acquire positive coping strategies, build healthy relationships, and navigate  challenging life transitions.

I serve clients across the lifespan, with expertise in working with tweens, adolescents, emerging adults (age 18-25), and LGBTQ individuals, as well as parenting support.  My clients struggle with a wide-range of concerns including anxiety, depression, identity exploration, emotional dysregulation, trauma, and balancing life stressors.  I also work with clients living with ADHD and OCD.

Therapy might be helpful if you or your child are …
  • feeling depressed, anxious, or stuck, and you're having a hard time bouncing back.
  • navigating or anticipating a difficult life transition, such as starting a new school, job, or routine.
  • having a hard time connecting with family, friends, classmates or colleagues.
  • interested in exploring identity, with regards to sexuality, gender, culture, race, etc.
  • having difficulties academically, professionally, or interpersonally, and want to understand why it’s happening and what to do about it.
  • ready to gain a better understanding of yourself, your relationships, and your future aspirations.

I am happy to discuss any questions or concerns you may have about beginning therapy.

I offer insight-oriented talk therapy, CBT techniques, and creative integration for tweens, adolescents, and adults. I also offer parenting support for caregivers looking to improve communication, build healthy routines, and cultivate strong relationships within their families.

Therapy is offered both in-person and virtually via a HIPAA compliant telehealth video-conferencing platform*. This allows for continuity of treatment when you're away at college, on the road, or after a move.
Art therapy enhances the lives of participants through active art-making, creative processes, applied psychological theory, and human connection.  Because process is emphasized over product, skill and experience aren’t required to benefit from art therapy. Goals include restoration of spontaneity, nonverbal communication, development of coping strategies, and more.

Some materials my clients enjoy:
Sewing/Quilting • Knitting • Drawing • Painting • Clay • Beading • Collage/Multimedia • Journaling/Sketchbooking • Poetry/Songwriting
Interested in having me consult with and/or present to your staff? My consultative services are informative and interactive, and can be conducted both in-person and virtually.  Whether you’re in a clinical setting, a school, a social service group, or a corporate environment, I would be happy to design a program that suits your organization’s needs.

Some of my previous trainings include: Behavior Care Center of New Jersey • New York Department of Health • New York Center for Children • SAFE in Hunterdon.
